In the early morning hours of June 30, 2018, a gathering at a Boston home turned deadly, ending the life of 26-year-old Wilfred Peters, a Black/African American man. The tragic event unfolded in the city's Brighton neighborhood, where Peters and another man, 27-year-old Jeffrey Montaque of Cambridge, were fatally shot.
The violence erupted at a party taking place at Peters' residence on Faneuil Street.
According to prosecutors, a dispute led to a 20-year-old man, Nicholas Antoine, being asked to leave the gathering. It is alleged that Antoine then went to his vehicle, retrieved a firearm, and returned to the party, where he opened fire. Both Peters and Montaque were pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds. Friends of Peters remembered him as a vibrant artist and a kind, supportive friend, expressing shock and sorrow over his sudden death.
Following an investigation, authorities identified Nicholas Antoine as the primary suspect in the double homicide. He was apprehended in Jonesboro, Georgia, months after the shooting. In December 2018, Antoine was arraigned in a Boston courtroom on two counts of murder. Prosecutors laid out their case, asserting that the deadly shooting was the direct result of Antoine being told to leave the party. He was subsequently held without bail.
