On the evening of Saturday, August 28, 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the late summer peace in a Dorchester neighborhood. Responding to a ShotSpotter activation at approximately 6:30 PM, Boston police officers arrived at the scene in the area of 11 Erie Street. There, they discovered Shamel Winston Atkins, a 31-year-old Black / African American male from Dorchester, suffering from a serious gunshot wound.
