On a spring evening in Boston, a family celebration turned into a scene of tragedy. Levar Foster, a 40-year-old Black / African American man, was shot and killed on May 24, 2021. The incident occurred in the Dorchester neighborhood, specifically in the area of 917 Blue Hill Avenue, where a graduation party was being held.
Boston police officers responded to a report of a person shot shortly after 8 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Foster suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The gathering, which should have been a joyous occasion, became the backdrop for a fatal confrontation. Prosecutors stated that an argument broke out between Foster and his half-brother, Oscar L. Bolding Jr. Bolding, then 42, is said to have left the apartment during the dispute, only to return with a firearm.
Witnesses at the party identified Bolding as the shooter. As police arrived at the scene, people were reportedly shouting from the windows, indicating the shooter was still in the vicinity and providing a description of him. Officers apprehended Bolding as he was attempting to flee the building. A loaded revolver was found on his person at the time of the arrest.
Bolding, a Dorchester resident with a prior criminal record including a conviction for carrying a gun without a license, was subsequently charged with murder. He was also charged with possession of a loaded firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and possession of a firearm without a license. A judge ordered him to be held without bail. Levar Foster was a father to two daughters.
