On an April evening in South Bend, Indiana, a dispute escalated into gunfire, tragically ending the life of 25-year-old Marlon Hudson. The male victim, originally from Gary, was fatally shot on April 12, 2023, in the 700 block of Philippa Street. Two women were also injured during the incident but were expected to recover.
The events of that night unfolded after a shouting match between groups on opposite sides of the street.
The verbal confrontation quickly turned violent, leading to a shootout. Authorities later recovered more than 40 shell casings from the scene, indicating the intensity of the exchange. Marlon Hudson was pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds.
In the ensuing investigation, South Bend police identified a suspect in the fatal shooting. On June 1, 2023, 23-year-old Keith Hardy of Chicago was arrested and charged with murder in connection with Hudson's death. According to court documents, Hardy was the first person to open fire during the altercation. If convicted, he faces a lengthy prison sentence.
