In the early morning hours of July 8, 2023, the life of 37-year-old Troy Allen, a Black male from Gary, Indiana, was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire. The fatal incident unfolded at the Up Top Lounge, a local establishment in Gary, where Allen and others were gathered.
Around 2:30 a.m., the night's socializing was shattered by the sound of gunshots. When police officers arrived at the scene in the 9000 block of East 21st Avenue, they discovered a chaotic and violent scene.
Troy Allen was found deceased inside the lounge, a victim of the shooting. Three other individuals, two men and a woman, all in their 30s, had also been struck by bullets. These surviving victims were quickly transported to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
