On the evening of September 23, 2018, in Gary, Indiana, 20-year-old Aundrell Lawaan Kendrick was fatally shot. A recent graduate of Lighthouse Charter School, he was working on the production line for Elite Staffing at the time of his death.
That night, Gary police were dispatched to the 400 block of Porter Street following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a 21-year-old man who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
This individual was transported to Methodist Hospital Northlake and later airlifted to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. Shortly after, officers were called back to Methodist Hospital Northlake for a second gunshot victim who had been brought in. This second victim was identified as Aundrell Kendrick. Having suffered two gunshot wounds, he was pronounced dead at 9:44 p.m. The Lake County Coroner's office subsequently ruled his death a homicide.
The Lake County Metro Homicide Unit took charge of the investigation into the shooting. Authorities looked into the possibility of a connection between the two victims. Despite their efforts, no immediate suspects were identified, and no arrests were made in connection with Aundrell's murder. The case has remained open, and law enforcement has urged anyone with information to come forward. His death was a significant loss to his family and the community, leaving his loved ones, including his parents, siblings, and girlfriend, to mourn his passing. His family continues to seek justice in his unresolved case.
