In the late summer of 2023, a Fort Wayne, Indiana community was shaken by the tragic death of Alisa Marie True, a 40-year-old woman, in her home on Fox Avenue. On September 19th, her life was abruptly ended by a fatal gunshot wound. The incident, which marked the 18th homicide in Allen County that year, left behind a grieving family, including her five children whose ages ranged from three to twenty-three.
The person responsible for Alisa's death was quickly identified as 42-year-old
Corby James Lee, the father of one of her children. Lee confessed to the shooting, telling police that he and Alisa had been arguing and that he was under the influence of methamphetamine at the time. He admitted that she was not threatening him when he shot her. Following his confession, Lee was arrested and charged with murder and using a firearm in the commission of an offense that resulted in death.
In the wake of this devastating loss, Alisa's family, including her mother, Kimberly Sampson, and her brothers, Cameron Slusher and Chad Sampson, were faced with the immense challenge of planning a funeral and caring for her five children. A GoFundMe campaign was established to help with the unexpected financial burdens. Alisa was remembered by her loved ones as a loving and caring person who would do anything for anybody. She had earned her GED and was pursuing a nursing degree at Ivy Tech University, where she had made the Dean's List.
The legal process moved forward, and after a three-day jury trial in Allen Superior Court, Corby James Lee was found guilty on both charges of murder and the use of a firearm. His sentencing was scheduled for April 26, 2024, bringing a measure of judicial closure to a case that had so tragically impacted a family and community.
