In the winter of 2023, a violent act shattered the peace of a Fort Wayne, Indiana apartment complex, leaving a family to grapple with a sudden and devastating loss. On the evening of Wednesday, December 6, 2023, police were called to the Villa Capri Apartments located on Fox Point Trail. Inside one of the apartment buildings, they discovered a man suffering from gunshot wounds in a hallway.
Despite the efforts of first responders, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The deceased was identified as Antonio Cortez Harris, a 31-year-old Black male from Fort Wayne. An autopsy later confirmed that Harris's death was a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds. His death marked the 26th homicide in Fort Wayne and Allen County for the year 2023.
The investigation into the shooting was conducted by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor's Office, and the Allen County Coroner's Office. In the days following the incident, authorities worked to identify a suspect. Their efforts led them to 23-year-old Joshua Parrish. On Monday, December 11, 2023, in a high-risk traffic stop near the intersection of South Anthony Boulevard and Simons Street, law enforcement arrested Parrish in connection with Harris's death. The arrest was a coordinated effort involving the Fort Wayne Homicide Unit, the Gang and Violent Crime Unit, the Vice and Narcotics Unit, the Aerial Support Unit, and the Uniform Operations Division. Following his arrest, Joshua Parrish was charged with murder and transported to the Allen County Jail.
