In a Fort Wayne, Indiana hotel room, a young woman's life was tragically cut short in what the authorities would later describe as a violent end to a relationship. Melissa Trevino, a 22-year-old Hispanic female, was discovered deceased on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, inside the Quality Inn on West Washington Center Road. Her death was the result of a gunshot wound, and the Allen County Coroner's Office officially ruled it a homicide.
She was the city's 12th homicide victim of the year.
The discovery was made around 12:45 p.m. when police were called to the hotel for an unknown problem and found two people unresponsive in a room. Alongside Melissa, law enforcement found the body of 22-year-old Dominic Norman Culjan III. Investigators from the Fort Wayne Police Department's Homicide Unit and crime scene technicians processed the scene.
The subsequent investigation led the Allen County Coroner to determine that Culjan shot and killed Trevino before turning the gun on himself. Culjan's cause of death was also a gunshot wound, and his manner of death was ruled a suicide. The findings of the coroner were consistent with the evidence gathered by the homicide detectives, leading them to conclude the incident was a murder-suicide. The case was considered closed as the sole suspect in Trevino's murder was also deceased.
