In the summer of 2020, the life of 22-year-old Amanda L. Hoglund was tragically cut short. On Wednesday, June 24, 2020, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Amanda was fatally shot, a victim of gun violence. A graduate of North Side High School's class of 2017, she was known for her fun-loving personality and as a passionate advocate for stopping sex trafficking and abuse. At the time of her death, she was working at Truth Inc. Tattoo Shop.
Those who knew her described her as a free spirit who cherished spending time with her family and friends.
The investigation into her death led authorities to a suspect. The following month, U.S. Marshals apprehended Martrell Weaver, then 24 years old, in Mansfield, Ohio, in connection with Amanda's murder. At the time of the killing, Weaver was on probation for other offenses. He was charged with her murder, which occurred on Clarmarnic Drive.
As the case prepared to go to trial, Weaver accepted a plea agreement. He pleaded guilty to the murder of Amanda Hoglund. In doing so, he admitted to his role in her shooting death. As a result of his guilty plea, he was sentenced to serve 50 years in prison. An Allen Superior Court Judge handed down the sentence, bringing a legal conclusion to the case.
