On February 11, 2024, 32-year-old Derrick Merrill Dye Jr. of Evansville, Indiana, was fatally shot outside Ponytails Lounge, a strip club located at the intersection of Columbia and Fares. Surveillance footage revealed that 27-year-old Zachary Diaz approached Dye, leading to a brief altercation during which a gunshot was fired.
