A native of Sebree, Kentucky, Jennings was a young man with a future ahead of him, having recently earned his mine certification and looking forward to a new career. He was known by friends and family as a protector, a loving individual, and a great friend.
On the night of April 15, 2017, events inside The Pony Gentlemen's
Club would set the stage for the fatal encounter. A patron, 35-year-old Clarence Miller, was ejected from the establishment after propositioning a dancer. Angered by his removal, Miller did not leave the area. Instead, he lingered outside, and surveillance footage would later show him moving stealthily behind vehicles before he opened fire into a crowd of people gathered near the club's entrance.
In the hail of gunfire, Aaron Jennings was struck and fatally wounded. Another man in the crowd also sustained injuries but survived. The sudden eruption of violence shattered the night and left a young man dead. In the aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement launched a swift investigation.
