In the early morning hours of February 24, 2024, the life of 21-year-old male, Kobe Stancombe, was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting in Bedford, Indiana. The incident unfolded inside a Jeep where Stancombe was an occupant, along with Casey Brown, Bradley Harper, and an unidentified female. The group was near Brown's residence on Fort Ritner Road when Brown fatally shot Stancombe.
Following the shooting of Stancombe, Brown allegedly fired multiple shots at the female as she managed
to escape the vehicle. Brown is also accused of holding Harper against his will before forcing him to drive away from the scene. Law enforcement was alerted to the situation around 5:30 a.m. and discovered Stancombe deceased from a gunshot wound in a driveway on Fort Ritner Road.
The search for the suspects led police to a Huck's Gas Station in Paoli later that day, shortly after 12:30 p.m. The driver of the Jeep, 39-year-old Bradley Harper of Bedford, surrendered to the authorities and was taken into custody for questioning. However, the passenger, identified as 38-year-old Casey Brown of Fort Ritner, refused to exit the vehicle, initiating an hours-long standoff with police. Despite the use of pepper balls and gas canisters by law enforcement, Brown, who was armed, refused to surrender. The standoff concluded when Brown sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers provided immediate medical aid, and he was transported to a hospital for treatment before being transferred to the Lawrence County Jail on March 8, 2024.
In connection with the death of Kobe Stancombe, Casey Brown faced charges of murder, attempted murder, and criminal confinement with a deadly weapon. After a four-day trial in November 2025, a jury found Casey Brown guilty on all charges. His sentencing was scheduled for December 9, 2025. Bradley Harper was not charged in the incident.
