On the evening of October 29, 2024, the sounds of gunfire shattered the peace at Tepe Park. Responding to reports, Evansville Police Department officers discovered Young's body under a picnic shelter, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The investigation into his death quickly led detectives to review surveillance footage from the park. This crucial evidence would prove instrumental in identifying those responsible for the senseless act of violence. The video captured two individuals shooting Young and then fleeing the scene.
The investigation revealed that earlier that day, Emuel had been seen at a local mall with two other teenagers, 16-year-old Santana Cooper and 17-year-old Lakai Snaden.
