In the late hours of a Sunday evening in Evansville, Indiana, the life of Dazmondre K. Marion, an 18-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short. On February 6, 2022, Marion was on the porch of a residence on Madison Avenue when he was shot multiple times. When police arrived at the scene around 9:00 p.m., they found him with grave injuries and immediately began life-saving measures.
Despite being rushed to a local hospital, Marion succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead a few
hours later, on what would have been his birthday, February 7, 2022. An autopsy later confirmed that he died from a gunshot wound to the chest. Known affectionately as 'Duda' to his loved ones, he was a father who enjoyed music, rapping, and playing basketball.
The Evansville Police Department launched a murder investigation into the shooting. According to an incident report, authorities have considered the possibility that the homicide was gang-related, though no definitive evidence has been publicly released to support this theory. The community was deeply affected by the violent loss of the young man, prompting calls for justice.
