On New Year's Day in 2018, 28-year-old D'Angelo White, a male from Evansville, Indiana, was fatally shot in what appeared to be a drug deal that turned into a robbery. The incident unfolded after a 17-year-old female, Charissa Robinson, contacted White with the intention of purchasing marijuana from him. Robinson lured White to the 1400 block of South Bedford Avenue, where the transaction was supposed to take place.
As White and Robinson were in his car, three other individuals, Mykel
Blair, Noah Coleman, and Derrick Butts, approached the vehicle with the intent to rob him. During the robbery, White was shot. Despite his injuries, he managed to drive a short distance before crashing his car into a house on Washington Avenue. Before losing consciousness, he was able to tell bystanders that a female had set him up. White was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his gunshot wound. Investigators found 68 grams of marijuana in his vehicle.
The investigation into D'Angelo White's death led to the arrests of five individuals. Charissa Robinson, the teenager who orchestrated the meeting, was charged as an adult. Mykel Blair, who was 18 at the time, was identified as the shooter. Derrick Butts, 38, and Noah Coleman, 20, were also arrested for their involvement in the robbery and murder. A fifth individual, 18-year-old Kyley Vincent, was later arrested for her role in planning the robbery.
Charissa Robinson pleaded guilty to felony murder, attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and theft of a firearm, receiving a 30-year prison sentence. Mykel Blair, the gunman, pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 45 years in prison. Derrick Butts was sentenced to 19 years for robbery causing bodily harm. Noah Coleman received an 18-year sentence for attempted robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, and Kyley Vincent was sentenced to 20 years for her role in the crime.
