On April 14, 2023, 17-year-old Daniel "Danny" Taylor, a male from Milan, was found inside a home suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities responded to the scene and attempted life-saving measures, but Taylor ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The tragic incident took place at a residence on Ridgewood Road, where a confrontation reportedly occurred inside the home, leading to multiple gunshots being fired.
Shortly after the shooting, a 15-year-old male suspect arrived at a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds. While authorities have not confirmed whether this individual was directly involved in Taylor's death, they later arrested him on charges of first-degree murder and home invasion. The suspect was transported from the hospital to a juvenile detention facility in Galesburg.
Further investigations led to additional arrests. A 19-year-old woman, Tationna T. Taylor, was charged with home invasion, a Class X felony. Court documents allege that she directed two individuals, including a minor, to Taylor's residence and provided instructions on how to access the home with the intent of committing the offense. Another suspect, 16-year-old Napoleon Jackson, was arrested in Newton, Iowa, and charged as an adult with first-degree murder, home invasion, and aggravated battery.
Authorities continue to investigate the case, and additional charges may be filed. The community has mourned the loss of Taylor, who was a senior at Rockridge High School. His death has sparked discussions about gun violence and safety among local residents.
