Anthony Sipp, a 39-year-old African American man, was fatally shot on October 29, 2020, in the Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago, IL. Sipp was driving in the 3600 block of West Grand Avenue around 7 p.m. when unknown assailants opened fire on his vehicle. He was struck in the head and neck, causing him to crash into three parked cars. Sipp was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed his identity and the cause of death.
Sipp was a reputed high-ranking member of the Four Corner Hustlers street gang, a fact that has drawn significant attention to his murder. Inside his car, police discovered over a dozen 9 mm bullet casings and three .45 caliber casings, indicating the involvement of multiple shooters. This area of Humboldt Park has been a hotspot for drug activity, and Sipp's criminal history includes a 2011 conviction for drug conspiracy, for which he served six years in prison before being released on parole in 2018.
The investigation into Sipp's murder is ongoing, with no arrests made at this time. Detectives from Area Four are leading the investigation, focusing on the gang-related aspects of the case. Earlier in 2020, federal authorities had charged 18 individuals in the same neighborhood for operating an open-air drug market, highlighting the persistent violence and criminal activity in the area. Despite the high-profile nature of Sipp's gang affiliation and the violent circumstances of his death, law enforcement has yet to identify any suspects or make any arrests. The case remains open as detectives continue to gather evidence and pursue leads.
