On May 11, 2023, a mass shooting occurred in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, including 20-year-old Jabez Davis. The incident took place around 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of West 61st Street and South Union Avenue. According to reports, two offenders exited a vehicle and began firing at a group of people who had gathered outside to enjoy the nice weather.
Jabez Davis, along with 26-year-old Jarrell Harmon, was fatally shot in the incident. Davis was struck in the shoulder, while Harmon was hit in the body. Both men were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead.
In addition to the two fatalities, three other individuals were wounded in the shooting. A 17-year-old boy was shot in the arm and transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition. A 21-year-old man was also shot in the arm and taken to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition. A 26-year-old woman was struck in the arm and transported to Stroger Hospital, with her condition initially reported as unknown.
The shooting occurred in a residential area where children were present, although none of the children were injured. Local residents expressed frustration and concern for the safety of the community, particularly for the children who were in the vicinity when the shooting happened.
As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made, and the motives behind the shooting remain unknown. The Chicago police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
