On September 22, 2025, a Black/African American male, 35, known to friends and family as Nathaniel “Rooster” Jefferson, sat in a parked car on the 5500 block of West Lake Street in Chicago's Austin neighborhood when an assailant walked up and opened fire. The burst of gunshots shattered the afternoon calm.
