Latrel Dontae Smith-Vaden, a 20-year-old resident of Joliet, Illinois, lost his life to gun violence on June 6, 2023. The incident occurred in the 600 block of East Benton Street on Joliet’s East Side, an area known for recurring gun violence and murder. Smith-Vaden suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was provided medical assistance by officers at the scene until paramedics arrived. He was subsequently taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, where he was pronounced dead.
