The incident occurred in the early morning hours on the east side of Joliet, specifically in the 600 block of Dover Street. Jermaine was fatally shot in the head, a devastating event that left his family and community in mourning. He was a recent graduate of Joliet Township High School and was known for his love of sports, including basketball, wrestling, and boxing. Jermaine was also a dedicated father to his young son, J.J., and was actively involved in the Joliet Community Action Network male mentoring program.
The investigation into Jermaine Peete's death led to the arrest of 18-year-old Daniel Briceno, who was charged with first-degree murder. Briceno, who lived on the same block where the shooting occurred, was taken into custody by Joliet Police officers on a probation violation shortly after the incident. The police continued to gather evidence, which resulted in Briceno facing multiple charges, including three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated battery involving a firearm, and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm.
