Marcello Dilworth, a 19-year-old African American male, was tragically gunned down on the porch of a residence in the 100 block of Hobbs Avenue in Joliet, Illinois, on July 27, 2019. The incident occurred around 12:55 a.m., and despite the prompt arrival of the Joliet Fire Department, Dilworth succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Joliet Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the homicide, which remains ongoing.
Dilworth had a history of legal troubles, having
been incarcerated on multiple occasions in 2018 and spending most of 2019 in the Will County Jail until his release approximately two weeks before his death. His criminal charges included possession of marijuana, resisting arrest, possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card, driving on a suspended license, and possession of controlled substances. Despite his troubled past, the circumstances surrounding his murder have left the community seeking answers and justice.
The Joliet Police Department has been actively seeking assistance from the public in their investigation. They have requested any surveillance footage from the area east of Miller Avenue to Akin Avenue and between E. Washington Street and Second Avenue, captured between 12:30 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. on the day of the incident. The police have also urged anyone with information to contact the Investigation Unit or Will County Crime Stoppers.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Marcello Dilworth's murder. The investigation continues, with the Joliet Police Department committed to uncovering the truth and bringing those responsible to justice.
