Phillip "Flip" Armstrong, 39, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away on September 24, 2023. Born on May 10, 1984, in St. Louis, Missouri, he worked as a steelworker and had a passion for music, history, NFL football, and current events. He cherished his Mustang and treasured conversations with his daughter, Chloe.
Tragically, Phillip's life was cut short in a domestic incident. On the evening of September 24, Granite City police responded to reports of a shooting in the 1400 block of Madison Avenue, where they found Phillip deceased in the roadway. Following an investigation, his girlfriend, Tara A. Anderson, 37, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, unlawful possession of weapons by a felon, and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number.
Phillip is survived by his daughter, Chloe Armstrong, and her mother, Andrea Mitchell of O'Fallon, Illinois; his father, Paul Armstrong of Collinsville, Illinois; his biological father, Robert Newbern of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; his twin brother, Patrick Armstrong of Glen Carbon, Illinois; and three sisters: Melissa Armstrong of Lakewood, Ohio, Stephanie Dahl of Olivette, Missouri, and Cynthia Torrence of Holly Ridge, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Armstrong; his uncle, Patrick Armstrong; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Private services were held in his honor. To support his daughter Chloe's future, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist with her educational needs.
