On May 24, 2024, a shooting incident occurred near a banquet hall in Pembroke Township, Illinois, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, including Edward E. Colon. Colon, a 32-year-old man from Chicago, was pronounced dead at the scene around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, by the Kankakee County Coroner's Office.
The shooting took place in the area of 13100 East Central Street in Pembroke Township, where large groups of people were attending two parties at a nearby banquet hall. When deputies from the Kankakee County Sheriff's Office and officers from neighboring agencies arrived, they found multiple people running from the scene and discovered five individuals who had suffered gunshot wounds. Besides Colon, who died at the scene, another victim, 44-year-old Milton J. Sykes of Kankakee, was taken to Riverside Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Autopsies performed on both victims confirmed that they died from multiple gunshot wounds. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and as of the latest reports, no arrests have been made.
