On October 18, 2024, a fatal shooting occurred in the parking lot of a McDonald's in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago. The incident took place around 3:45 p.m. at the McDonald's located at 1004 W. Wilson Avenue, near Sheridan Road and Wilson Avenue.
The victim, identified as 45-year-old Randy Joiner of Chicago, was sitting in his parked car when two individuals, described as wearing hooded sweatshirts, approached him.
One of the suspects pulled out a gun and fired shots into the vehicle, hitting Joiner in the head.
Joiner was immediately taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was admitted in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead approximately 90 minutes after the shooting.
Randy Joiner had recently moved back to Chicago from Austin, Texas, according to comments on a Facebook memorial page.
As of the current date, no one has been reported in custody in connection with the homicide. Area 3 detectives are ongoing with their investigation into the incident.
This incident marks at least the second homicide and the 14th shooting in the Uptown area this year, highlighting ongoing concerns about violence in the neighborhood.
