In the quiet neighborhood of Vinings, Georgia, a tragedy unfolded on the evening of February 10, 2023, that cut short the life of Timothy Bennett, a 31-year-old Black man. What began as a verbal dispute escalated into a fatal encounter, leaving a community in shock and a family to mourn an irreversible loss.
That Friday evening, at a townhome on Allegretto Circle, an argument broke out between Bennett and another man, Deandra Benson-Perryman.
The disagreement took a violent turn when Benson-Perryman allegedly shot Bennett multiple times. Cobb County Police were dispatched to the scene around 6:42 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Bennett suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, but the severity of his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The alleged shooter, 39-year-old Deandra Benson-Perryman, remained at the scene and was promptly taken into custody by the authorities. According to neighbors, Benson-Perryman was the owner of the residence and had been in the process of moving out. Moving trucks were reportedly seen outside the home where the violent altercation occurred. It remains unclear what the relationship was between Bennett and Benson-Perryman.
Following the incident, Deandra Benson-Perryman was arrested and booked into the Cobb County Jail. He faced charges of murder and aggravated assault in connection with Timothy Bennett's death. In April 2023, a Cobb County grand jury indicted Benson-Perryman on charges of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He remains in the Cobb County jail without bond.
