In a tragic turn of events on a Thursday afternoon in Conyers, Georgia, a dispute escalated into fatal violence, leaving one man dead and another wounded. The incident, which unfolded on November 7, 2019, claimed the life of 45-year-old Robbie Daniel. What began as a disagreement between two men and a neighbor ended in a hail of gunfire, setting off a chain of events that would culminate in a second death several hours later.
According to witnesses, 66-year-old Gerald Newton Allen opened fire on Daniel and another individual at a residence on Green Street. Daniel succumbed to his injuries, while the other man was also wounded. Following the shooting, Allen retreated to his own home on nearby Spring Street, a short distance from the initial crime scene. He then barricaded himself inside, refusing to surrender to the authorities who had quickly descended on the neighborhood.
The arrival of the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, along with Conyers Police, marked the beginning of a tense and prolonged standoff. For hours, negotiators attempted to communicate with Allen, hoping for a peaceful resolution. As the standoff stretched into the evening, law enforcement made the decision to enter the residence in an attempt to take Allen into custody.
The situation inside the house quickly deteriorated as Allen met the entering deputies with gunfire, wounding two of them. The deputies returned fire, and in the ensuing exchange, Allen was fatally wounded. A search of the residence later revealed the presence of numerous firearms. The two injured deputies were transported to a local hospital for treatment and were subsequently released.
