A sense of profound loss and unanswered questions still lingers in Conyers, Georgia, years after the tragic death of Richard “ATL” Green. On October 22, 2017, the 36-year-old man was killed in what remains an unsolved murder. On that day, Green was at a home in the Pinedale subdivision when an unknown assailant brought violence to the quiet neighborhood.
According to a family member, Green was asleep when a tall, African-American man in his 20s, dressed in all black with a hoodie, rang the doorbell. This unidentified man entered the residence and shot Green, fleeing the scene in broad daylight, leaving behind a grieving family and a community in shock. In the immediate aftermath, investigators worked to piece together the events of that fatal day. Other people were reportedly in the apartment at the time of the shooting but were not targeted, leading Green's sister to believe it was a targeted murder and not a robbery gone wrong.
In the days following the homicide, the Conyers Police Department released a composite sketch of a person of interest. The initial description was of a tall, slender Black man with a gap in his front teeth and a box-style haircut. However, years later, both law enforcement and Green's family have stated that this initial sketch is not accurate, adding another layer of difficulty to the ongoing investigation.
As of the fourth anniversary of his death in October 2021, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Richard Green. The man who shot him remains unidentified and at large. In an effort to bring a resolution to the case, the Conyers Police Department, in conjunction with Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta and the Green family, has increased the reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible to $15,000. The family continues to plead with the public for any information that could lead to justice for Richard.
