In a quiet home in Conyers, Georgia, a heartbreaking discovery was made on December 1, 2019, that left a family and community in mourning. Joshua Baker, a 19-year-old Black/African American male with a promising future, was found deceased inside the residence. A student at Albany State University and a member of the Marine Reserves, Joshua was known for a smile that radiated joy and a spirited soul with big dreams ahead of him.
Authorities had been called to the home for a welfare check and upon entry, they found three bodies. Alongside Joshua Baker were his 25-year-old sister, Jaydah Curry, and her 50-year-old husband, Michael Curry. All three had been shot, and the deaths of Joshua and his sister were ruled as homicides. There were no signs of forced entry into the house.
While the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office did not immediately release details on the sequence of events, the family of the victims voiced their beliefs about what had transpired. The mother of Joshua and Jaydah stated her conviction that her son-in-law, Michael Curry, was responsible for the deaths of her two children before taking his own life. A vigil was held to honor the lives of the slain siblings, where love and support poured in for the two youngest victims.
