In Conyers, Georgia, what began as a family get-together ended in the tragic death of 30-year-old Dearrius Davenport on the night of June 13, 2025. Davenport, a U.S. Army veteran and father, was at a house party on Janice Lane when an argument broke out. In an attempt to de-escalate the situation and protect a younger female cousin, Davenport was fatally shot in the chest. He was found lying in the road and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The evening took a turn when a dispute escalated, leading to the deadly confrontation. Witnesses at the scene identified 33-year-old Tamorris D'tron Tyler as the shooter. Following the incident, Tyler fled, prompting an extensive manhunt that involved both the Conyers Police Department and the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office SWAT team. After a search lasting several hours, Tyler was apprehended in the early morning hours of the following day.
Tamorris Tyler, who has a prior felony conviction, was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was subsequently booked into the Rockdale County Jail. The violence tragically continued the next day when shots were fired at a vigil being held for Davenport in a nearby neighborhood. While no one was injured in the second shooting, police believe the two incidents are connected.
