In the summer of 2019, on the Fourth of July, the life of 19-year-old Aaron Quintavious Huff of Conyers, Georgia, was tragically cut short by gun violence. On that Thursday afternoon, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Rockdale County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 3500 block of Tiffany Drive, south of Conyers, following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene: Aaron Huff was found deceased, and a second individual was suffering from injuries.
Neighbors recounted hearing multiple gunshots, with one resident telling reporters they heard 'about six or seven gunshots' and initially mistook the noise for someone working on a roof. This same neighbor then witnessed two men, one described as white and the other as Black, running across his yard carrying what appeared to be handguns and short rifles. Another neighbor's security camera captured people fleeing through her yard after she heard about three gunshots. The injured victim was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment. Family members shared that Huff did not reside at the Tiffany Drive home but was there visiting at the time of the fatal incident.
The investigation into the double shooting quickly identified persons of interest. Within days, two men were apprehended in connection with the violence that claimed Huff's life. Olufemi Emmanuel Akporido, 19, was arrested on July 5 after a brief pursuit that ended with his vehicle flipping on Mall Parkway. Subsequently, on July 10, 20-year-old Justin Nash Coddington was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in Stockbridge.
Both Akporido and Coddington faced multiple charges, including felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony. Additionally, they were both charged with probation violation. Coddington faced a further charge of obstruction. Following their arrests, both men were held at the Rockdale County jail without bond. The motive for the shooting was not immediately released by law enforcement officials as they continued their investigation into the events that led to the death of Aaron Quintavious Huff.
