On a Friday morning in Decatur, Georgia, a routine coffee run turned into a fatal encounter for 41-year-old Brian Dykes. On February 17, 2023, Dykes was inside a Dunkin' Donuts when 17-year-old Lamarion Orr spotted a handgun in his waistband. In a sudden move, Orr snatched the firearm from Dykes and fled the store.
Dykes pursued Orr into the parking lot, where a struggle for the weapon ensued. During the altercation, Orr shot Dykes, who succumbed to the gunshot wound at the scene. The incident happened around 9 a.m. at the Dunkin' located at 2704 Candler Road.
Following the shooting, law enforcement utilized surveillance footage from the area to track Orr to a nearby motel where he was staying. He was promptly taken into custody and has since been charged with murder and robbery by sudden snatching.
Brian Dykes, a resident of Covington, was born on June 11, 1981, in Conyers and was a graduate of Eastside High School. He had a history of serving his community as a volunteer firefighter with Newton County Fire Station 8 and had also been employed by Chancey's Wrecker Service. He was remembered by loved ones for his enjoyment of cooking out and the time he cherished with family and friends.
