In the Bronx, a 47-year-old Hispanic man named Alexis Ramirez was fatally shot on the evening of Saturday, March 16, 2024. The incident occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. in the Fordham Heights neighborhood, in front of an apartment building at 2311 Morris Avenue. Officers from the 46th Precinct responded to 911 calls reporting a person shot and discovered Ramirez at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds throughout his body.
Emergency medical services transported Ramirez to St.
Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Investigators at the scene found a baseball cap and a pair of eyeglasses on the sidewalk within the cordoned-off area. A vigil later formed at the site of the shooting to remember Ramirez.
Just three days after the shooting, on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, the New York Police Department made arrests in connection with the murder. Three men from the Bronx were taken into custody. The suspects were identified as 44-year-old Carlos Hernandez Ortiz, 42-year-old Jose Suarez, and 54-year-old Julio Suarez. It was not immediately clear if Jose and Julio Suarez are related. All three men were arrested within the confines of the 46th Precinct.
The three suspects are facing multiple charges, including murder, manslaughter, gang assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. The investigation into the homicide remains ongoing.
