In the Bronx, a 30-year-old Hispanic male named Jeffrey Lopez was fatally shot on the evening of May 7, 2024. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of East 187th Street and Beaumont Avenue in the Belmont neighborhood. Lopez, a father of two, was shot in the head. First responders rushed him to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities reported that a gunman, clad in black and wearing a hood, approached Lopez and fired multiple shots.
After being hit, Lopez managed to stumble down the block before collapsing. Investigators found a significant number of bullet casings at the scene, with some reports indicating as many as 11 rounds were fired. While the motive has not been officially confirmed, sources suggest the shooting may have been drug-related.
The New York City Police Department is actively investigating the homicide and has released surveillance images and video footage of the suspected gunman to the public.
