In the spring of 2023, a shooting in a southwest Atlanta neighborhood set in motion a chain of events that would ultimately lead to the death of a 68-year-old man and a subsequent murder charge. On the morning of April 25, Atlanta police were called to a residence in the 1100 block of Fountain Drive, not far from the Atlanta University Center Consortium, where they found Andre Harris suffering from severe injuries.
He was rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
For nearly three months, Harris battled the injuries he sustained in the shooting. However, on July 18, 2023, he succumbed to his wounds and passed away. Following his death, homicide investigators took the lead on the case and began the work of identifying the person responsible for the fatal shooting. Their investigation led them to name 52-year-old Willie Holt as the primary suspect.
On August 29, 2023, months after the initial incident, the Georgia State Patrol located and arrested Willie Holt in Carroll County. He was subsequently transferred to the Fulton County Jail and booked on a single charge of murder in connection with Andre Harris's death. The motive for the shooting has not been publicly released by law enforcement officials.
