On a tragic evening in Augusta, Georgia, 15-year-old Jordon Gaynor’s life was cut short by a senseless act of violence. On June 1, 2023, the young man was standing outside the Get-N-Go convenience store on Windsor Spring Road with two friends when multiple gunshots shattered the peace. While his friends were physically unharmed, Jordon was struck in the upper body and fatally wounded.
The community was left in shock and mourning for the loss of a teenager described as a lovable individual who enjoyed making people laugh and had a passion for music, even starting to DJ at a young age.
Investigators quickly launched a thorough investigation into the shooting. Their efforts were significantly aided by video surveillance footage from the area. The footage captured a figure dressed entirely in black walking down Rosier Road, near the Salem Arms Apartments. This individual was seen firing multiple shots in Jordon's direction before fleeing towards the apartment complex and getting into a gold 2011 Toyota Camry. This crucial piece of evidence allowed authorities to trace the vehicle to its registered owner, identified as 32-year-old Derrick Lyons Jr.
The investigation led to the identification of two other suspects in connection with the murder: 18-year-old Ike Romeo Lang and 41-year-old Dexter Romeo White. Derrick Lyons Jr. was located at his workplace and taken into custody for questioning. While he admitted to being with Lang and White on the day of the shooting, he denied any direct involvement in the murder. Subsequently, all three men—Lyons, Lang, and White—faced charges of murder, weapon possession, and two counts of aggravated assault, the latter charges stemming from the imminent danger Jordon's two friends faced during the shooting.
The search for the remaining suspects continued, and on June 19, 2023, Ike Romeo Lang was apprehended after a dramatic high-speed chase involving a stolen 2019 Jaguar F-Pace. Authorities had also sought Lang in connection with a separate incident where an assault rifle was used to shoot into a residence, injuring two adults and narrowly missing two infants. During the pursuit, Lang was found hiding in some bushes, and a Glock 19x with a full automatic switch and a 31-round magazine was discovered nearby.
