A Father's Day visit to pick up a family member turned into a tragedy for 38-year-old Rodrell Maurice Dobson, a male from Woodstock, Georgia. On June 18, 2023, Dobson arrived at a residence on Roseberry Lane in Grayson, where he was met outside by 19-year-old Christian Houston. Following a brief and heated argument, Houston allegedly shot Dobson in the driveway. Dobson succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The sound of a single gunshot followed by a scream was captured on a neighbor's security camera. A nurse who lived nearby rushed to Dobson's aid, finding him face down on the sidewalk with no pulse and administering CPR until police arrived. Following the shooting, Houston was believed to have barricaded himself inside the home, prompting a significant police response, including the activation of the Gwinnett County SWAT team. The tense standoff lasted for several hours as law enforcement officials cordoned off the neighborhood. However, upon entering the residence, authorities discovered that Houston had already fled the scene.

In the days that followed, the Gwinnett County Police Department identified Christian Houston as the suspect and issued warrants for his arrest on charges of felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes. Houston was also wanted on a separate outstanding warrant for simple battery from an incident that occurred the previous month. On June 21, 2023, three days after the fatal shooting, Christian Houston was taken into custody. He was subsequently charged with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, battery, and second-degree criminal damage to property and was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail. The incident was described by police as being of a domestic nature.
