In the early morning hours of June 18, 2023, the life of 20-year-old Ja'Marcus Jy'Quon Dariso was tragically cut short in his hometown of Americus, Georgia. A Black male, Dariso was the victim of a shooting that occurred in the 300 block of Poplar Street.
The Americus Police Department received a 911 call reporting the shooting at approximately 1:45 a.m. Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon their arrival, they found Dariso with gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to Phoebe Sumter Hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, Ja'Marcus Dariso succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
In the wake of the fatal shooting, the Americus Police Department requested the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to lead the inquiry into Dariso's death. The investigation was announced to be a joint effort between the GBI and local law enforcement. Authorities have publicly appealed for assistance, urging anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and contact either the Americus Police Department or the GBI.
