On the afternoon of March 15, 2022, a confrontation between two individuals in Ridgeway, Missouri, escalated into violence, resulting in the death of 51-year-old male Lynn Jody Trammell. Law enforcement officers were dispatched to a residence on the 300 block of Locust Street, located just south of the local park, following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, authorities discovered Trammell had sustained a fatal wound during the altercation and was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation was immediately launched by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Missouri Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control to determine the specific circumstances surrounding the homicide.
Authorities identified a suspect, Travis W. Gilliland, who was subsequently taken into custody in connection with the incident. Prosecutors initially filed charges against Gilliland for second-degree murder and armed criminal action. Following his arrest, he was held on a $250,000 bond, though reports indicated he was later transferred to a different county jail due to safety concerns before eventually being released on house arrest while awaiting trial. The legal process continued throughout the year as the community and the victim's family awaited a resolution to the case.
In December 2022, just before the case was scheduled to proceed to trial, Gilliland reached a plea agreement with prosecutors. He pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of involuntary manslaughter in the second degree in Harrison County Circuit Court. The legal proceedings concluded the following spring when the court handed down a sentence of four years in prison for his role in the fatal shooting.
