In a burst of violence that shattered a winter afternoon, 30-year-old Robert F. Woods, a male, was fatally shot on February 13, 2021, in Alton, Illinois. The incident unfolded just after noon near the intersection of 11th Street and Alby Street, prompting calls to the Alton Police Department about a public disturbance. While officers were en route, the situation escalated dramatically as further reports came in of gunshots being fired in the same area.
Upon their arrival, police discovered Woods suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local hospital but was later pronounced dead. The investigation into the shooting moved swiftly, and a suspect was taken into custody a short time after the incident. Authorities identified the alleged shooter as Arvin W. Freeman, a 44-year-old man from Springfield, Missouri. Investigators quickly determined that the shooting was not a random act of violence, stating that Woods and Freeman were acquainted with each other.
