On July 30, 2014, Mahopela Allen Jr., aged 24, was tragically killed in Berkeley, Missouri. The incident occurred at the intersection of Short Avenue and Washington Avenue, where Allen and a female companion were parked in a car. According to reports, a friend of Allen's entered the backseat of the vehicle and asked him to turn on the light.
