On a summer evening in Decatur, Georgia, the life of 19-year-old Demario “Lil Yo” Hollis, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On June 26, 2023, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Hollis was in a car with a passenger near a Krispy Kreme on Wesley Chapel Road when another vehicle pulled alongside them. In an apparent drive-by shooting, gunfire erupted from the suspect's car, striking both Hollis and his passenger.
Despite being seriously wounded, Hollis managed to drive away from the
immediate scene. He was transported to a local hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The passenger in his vehicle, also 19 years old, was injured in the shooting but survived. The incident took place at the busy intersection of Wesley Chapel Road and Snapfinger Woods Drive, just off Interstate 20. A celebration of Hollis's life was held on July 1, 2023, followed by his burial at Lincoln Cemetery in Atlanta.
For months, the case remained under investigation. Then, on December 8, 2023, the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of the Georgia State Patrol's SWAT unit, arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting. Kaleb Fisher, a 20-year-old from Stone Mountain, was taken into custody at a residence in southeast Atlanta.
Fisher was subsequently booked into the DeKalb County jail and is being held without bond. He faces multiple charges, including one count of felony murder, three counts of aggravated assault, and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive for the shooting.
