In the summer of 2023, the life of 42-year-old Travis Lamar Caruthers, a male resident of Tifton, Georgia, was tragically cut short. On the evening of Wednesday, July 5th, law enforcement from the Tift County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence at 1467 Shanna Drive. Upon their arrival, they discovered Caruthers suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Tift Regional Hospital, but the severity of his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The Tift County Sheriff's Office promptly requested the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to aid in the homicide investigation. As the inquiry progressed, authorities identified several individuals believed to be connected to Caruthers' death. On Sunday, July 16, 2023, a significant breakthrough occurred when Kadeem Harris, Jr., a 34-year-old from Lenox, Georgia, was apprehended. His arrest at a location on East 14th Street in Tifton came after a brief standoff with law enforcement. Harris was subsequently charged with Felony Murder and Aggravated Assault.
The investigation led to further arrests. Carlos Searcy, 48, of Tifton, was also taken into custody and faced the same serious charges of Felony Murder and Aggravated Assault. In connection with the case, two other individuals were arrested on different charges. Lakisha Perry, 35, of Tifton, was charged with Possession of Fentanyl, Possession of Cocaine, and Theft by Receiving Stolen Property. John Daniell, a 47-year-old from Eastman, was charged with Possession of Cocaine.
Following their arrests, Kadeem Harris, Jr. was held at the Coffee County Jail, while Carlos Searcy, Lakisha Perry, and John Daniell were booked into the Tift County Jail. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Travis Lamar Caruthers was announced as active and ongoing, with law enforcement encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
