On July 30, 2018, Akhtar Perveez, a 55-year-old male of South Asian descent, was tragically killed during a robbery at his convenience store, the Eldorado Food Mart, located on Highway 41 in Tifton, Georgia. The incident occurred around 3:25 PM, prompting the Tift County Sheriff’s Office to request assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). The GBI Medical Examiner later ruled Perveez's death a homicide caused by a gunshot wound.
