Ryane O. Swims Jr., a 27-year-old former soldier stationed at Fort Stewart, was fatally shot on October 22, 2023, in downtown Savannah, Georgia. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Congress and Whitaker Streets. Authorities pronounced Swims dead at the scene shortly before 3:30 a.m. Another individual sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Memorial Health in Savannah.
