In the evening hours of February 12, 2022, a tragedy unfolded on the 1100 block of East 54th Street in Savannah, Georgia, that would cut short the life of a young man. Burnell Scott, a 15-year-old African American male, was discovered outside a residence with life-threatening gunshot wounds. The Savannah Police Department was alerted to the scene around 7:20 p.m. by a ShotSpotter notification.
Emergency medical services transported the critically injured teenager to Memorial Health University Medical Center. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Burnell Scott succumbed to his injuries three days later, on February 15, 2022. It was noted by investigators that while the residents of the home where he was found were familiar with him, he did not reside at that address.
The Savannah Police Department's Violent Crimes detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
