In what was initially reported as a car accident in a Forest Park, Georgia neighborhood on November 5, 2023, authorities discovered a much more grim scene. Inside the crashed red sedan on Bartlett Road, they found 23-year-old Edwin Dominguez and his 21-year-old cousin, Jonathan Bustamante Zuniga, both deceased. The two men had been shot by a passenger who was in the vehicle with them. After the shooting, the car, which had been at the top of a hill, rolled down and crashed.
The male suspect then fled the scene on foot.
Family members were devastated by the sudden and violent loss of the two young men, who they described as ambitious, smart, humble, and hardworking individuals with their whole lives ahead of them. They created a GoFundMe page to assist with the unexpected funeral expenses for both cousins. While police initially suggested the motive for the shooting might have been a drug deal that went awry, the family of the victims disputed this, believing it to have been a robbery.
The investigation into the double homicide led Forest Park police to a 16-year-old suspect. The teenager, whose name was not publicly released, was arrested and is facing a multitude of serious charges. These include two counts of felony murder, two counts of malice murder, two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a handgun by a minor. Following his arrest, the teen was being held by the Department of Juvenile Justice as the investigation continued.
