In the quiet community of Forest Park, Georgia, a tragic event unfolded on November 5, 2023, that claimed the lives of two young men. Jonathan Bustamante Zuniga, a 21-year-old Hispanic male, and his 23-year-old cousin, Edwin Dominguez, were found inside a crashed red sedan on Bartlett Road. The vehicle had come to a stop near Watts Road after it appeared to have rolled down a hill from the scene of a crash.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered that both Zuniga and Dominguez had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The initial investigation suggested that a passenger inside the car had shot both men before the vehicle crashed. Authorities believe the shooter, who was also thought to have been involved in the crash, fled the scene on foot immediately after the incident. Investigators later indicated that they believed the shooting was drug-related. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist the Forest Park police in the investigation.
In the days following the double homicide, family members remembered Zuniga and Dominguez as 'smart, humble, and hard-working young men' who had 'a life full of ambitious goals ahead of them.' A GoFundMe page was created to help with the funeral expenses for the two cousins.
A significant break in the case came when a 16-year-old male was arrested in connection with the killings. The teenage suspect, whose name was not publicly released, was taken into custody and charged with two counts of felony murder, two counts of malice murder, and two counts of aggravated assault. He also faced charges of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a handgun by a minor. Following his arrest, the 16-year-old was held by the Department of Juvenile Justice.
