In the pre-dawn hours of a Sunday in Forest Park, Georgia, a violent encounter inside a car at a gas station left two young men dead. On October 24, 2021, 19-year-old Emonte Gunn was in the front passenger seat of a Toyota Avalon at a Chevron on Morrow Road when a shootout erupted within the vehicle.
The exchange of gunfire involved Gunn and a 16-year-old who was seated in the back. Both sustained multiple gunshot wounds. When police responded to the scene shortly before 12:30 a.m., they found a grim situation. The 16-year-old was pronounced dead inside the car.
Emonte Gunn was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Two other individuals who were also inside the car at the time of the shooting were fortunate to escape without any physical injuries. Investigators determined that the two deceased teenagers had shot each other, though the motive for the fatal confrontation was not immediately clear.
